Ferry L-198’s upgrade into a battery-powered hybrid ferry
Built in 1994 at the Uudenkaupungin Työvene Oy shipyard for Finferries, ferry L-198 has undergone an extensive mid-life upgrade, during which it has been converted into a battery-powered hybrid ferry. This change is a significant step towards greener and more sustainable ferry services and confirms Finferries’ commitment to developing environmentally friendly transport. The vessel was renovated by Oy HL-Metal Ab in Pansio, and Comatec Group carried out the electrical design related to electrical installations.

- Comatec was responsible for the electrical manufacturing design related to all subsystems of the vessel.
Results and benefits:
- The new hybrid technology was implemented, and all electrical systems were completely renewed.
- Comatec has extensive electrical design experience of a variety of vessel types, and the electrical design experience was utilized in this fast-track project.
- The renovation of the ferry was completed according to a tight schedule.
Main dimensions of the vessel:
- Length 49,0 meters
- Width 12,3 meters
- Draught 3,6 meters
- Deadweight 130 tonnes
- Vehicle capacity 36 passenger cars
