Mikko, Design Engineer, Lahti, Finland

Mikko graduated with a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Lappeenranta University of Technology, and his career path led him to Comatec in search of new kinds of responsibilities. Previously, Mikko worked in an industrial plant environment on layout designs, installation assemblies and equipment models, as well as related drawings, which over time began to feel repetitive. New types of tasks appealed to him, and as he already knew people working at Comatec, the company itself was familiar to him. A suitable role became available, and Mikko decided to join Comatec.

As a mechanical design engineer at Comatec, Mikko’s work includes considering different design solutions, searching for information, modelling and producing drawings for assigned projects. Much of his day is spent on these tasks, alongside reviewing project situations and coordinating work with other project participants and the customers.

“I enjoy project-based work because projects involve many different small and large problems to be solved, which I find interesting. At Comatec, I have learned a lot about different requirements and, more generally, about a wide variety of new types of equipment that I have come across”, Mikko says.

“In my current role, I also work a great deal with disciplines outside mechanical engineering, so through various meetings I have become more familiar with their work as well, as everyone is working on the same product but from different perspectives.”

According to Mikko, the best thing about his job is the right balance between varied tasks and new challenges to solve. It is great to see how things begin to take shape as a project progresses, and of course finding a good solution to complex problems is always rewarding. The projects Mikko works with continuously offer opportunities to challenge him. In project work, fluctuations in workload and changes to schedules can sometimes pose challenges, but things have always been worked out through mutual agreement.

Like many others, Mikko also speaks highly of the working atmosphere at Comatec, as well as his skilled and friendly colleagues.

“As a workplace, Comatec is very pleasant: the atmosphere is good and my colleagues are a competent and friendly group of people. Regular team days and occasionally more informal social activities at the end of the day bring a welcome boost to everyday work.”
